Empathy – Heart Healing with Sevinc Chelebi and Heart Wisdom Process
Empathy is the mental ability. It helps us to know another person’s emotional or mental state. It is a tool for us to understand each other well.
Being highly empathetic created lots of challenges in my life. Like many people, l started to numb my body towards the pain, heaviness l can sense through people around me. Hoping this will help to function in life better. I did it because it was hard to deal with intense emotions and pain l sense through the adults around me.
At that time, l was not even aware that this was something about being empathetic. I believed that l was unhappy, stuck, so l focused on numbing and forcing the body to get rid of unhappiness.
Even the adults were not aware of this process. I was just repeating what they did as a coping mechanism. No one talked about this type of experience, what was happening, and how l could deal with it.

Living this way caused health issues in my body from early life, like 12. It was because intense emotions turn to health issues if they are not processed.
Trying to freeze the body didn’t mean l am not sensing the pain around me. It was a way of lying myself as l can overcome the negativity l experience. This way of living brought up health problems.
The level of painfulness around people and how they deal with the emotions they sense can bring up different results in each person.
What l learned from my experience was: empathy was not causing me problems. Unawareness about the process called empathy, and not knowing how to deal with emotions caused me a problem. We don’t need to judge life or be upset at this ability called empathy.
We need to:
1. Focus on noticing the symptoms of our bodies showing up as a result of empathy.
2. Learn how to let go of the painful emotions we may sense—not internalizing these emotions and causing health or other life issues.
